About Girl Coalition of Indiana
Girl Coalition of Indiana is a statewide, girl-focused social innovation startup inspired by the six Girl Scout Councils currently serving girls across Indiana. Girl Co. seeks to enable every girl in Indiana to live her best life physically, academically, emotionally, and socially. By engaging in communities across Indiana, they learn about the needs of girls, while working to create innovative solutions that remove barriers for girls in Indiana, specifically those living in low-income communities. Lastly, Girl Co. advocates for systemic change to provide accessible and equitable experiences for every girl, starting with conducting, sharing, and acting on annual research on the state of Indiana girls.
It was a profound honor for me to serve as the lead designer for this transformative project, guiding it through the inception of logo sketch concepts to the impactful launch of campaigns. As a Mexican-American woman, this project holds immense personal significance for me. I deeply believe in its mission to empower all girls facing challenges, ensuring they have equal opportunities and experiences irrespective of their skin color or socioeconomic status. I am eagerly anticipating witnessing how Girl Co. will positively impact the lives of young girls, giving a voice to those who may feel unheard or unable to advocate for themselves.
In crafting the brand identity for Girl Co., the focus was on creating a 'girl-focused' appeal without leaning into stereotypical 'girly' elements like pink, rainbows, or unicorns. The aim was to resonate with a broader spectrum of girls aged 5-18, steering clear of traditional stereotypes associated with girls. Considering the collaboration with the Girl Scouts, it was essential to distinguish the branding while ensuring visual synergy for potential joint initiatives, like the "Her Voice" campaign.
